Double pumping – The key to producing more milk in less time
Double Pumping is the best way to maximize the amount of breast milk you express.
So the question is, why does double pumping increase breast milk supply?
Firstly it prompts an extra let down. The double stimulation is more efficient in getting the milk-releasing hormone, Oxycontin flowing resulting in an additional let down taking place.
On average a double pumping session would yield about 18% more milk than a single pumping session.
Double pumping does improve expressing effectiveness; however it will not create an over-production of milk. Your baby will always be more effective when removing milk.
Secondly, it has been found that the milk expressed during a double pumping session yield a higher fat content than with single pumping. The reason for this is breast drainage – your breasts are drained more because of the extra let down and the increase of milk supply. The higher fat content is a sign that your breasts are being well emptied during a double pumping session as opposed to a single pumping session. This effectiveness is key, as a well-drained breast will tell your system to produce more milk.
Lastly, because you are expressing milk from both breasts simultaneously, you will reduce your pumping time by about half. You will be expressing more milk in about half the time through double pumping. This is what I call being productive and effective, giving you more time to spend with your family, or finishing off work.
